Basic Safety Rules

Young children should not go places or play outside without being supervised by a parent or trusted adult.


Get permission from your parents or the person in charge before going anywhere, even with a friend or adult.


Never get into a car with anyone without your parent's or the person in charge's permission.



Always buckle up for safety while riding in a car.



Be cautious with anyone who offers you something, even someone you know. Check with your parents or a a trusted adult before talking to them or answering their questions.



Yell "
Get away from me! I don't know you!" in a loud voice if someone approaches you in a way that makes you feel scared or uncomfortable while you are alone or with a friend. Then, run away to tell your parents or a trusted adult.



Know which homes in your neighbourhood you may run to if you feel scared or need help.


Know who to go for help if you are lost, such as police officers.


Know these four things:


 1. Your first and last name

 2. Your address with city and state

 3. Your home phone number with area code

 4. Your parents' full names.



Older family members should answer the doorbell and telephone. If home alone, do not answer the doorbell or telephone unless you have specific permission from your parents or the person in charge.


Know the phone numbers of trusted adults and do not be afraid to call them if you feel scared when home alone or out with a friend.



The telephone is not a toy. Know how and when to dial 000 in an emergency.



Body parts that are covered by a swimsuit are private.



If touched or treated in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, yell "
STOP", even to an adult. Then, run away to tell your parents or a trusted adult.



It is okay to say "
NO" to an adult who makes you feel scared or uncomfortable.



If someone threatens to hurt you, a sibling or a parent, you should tell your parents, even if told not to.



Do not trust older kids or adults who tell you to keep a secret from your parents.



Don't be afraid to talk with your parents about topics that may make you nervous or uncomfortable.



Do not look at anything on the internet that makes you uncomfortable. Discuss your feelings with your parents.



Do not agree to meet with or exchange personal information with someone on the internet.



Always wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter, or skateboard.



Do not play around swimming pools.



Practice
STOP, DROP & ROLL in case there is ever a fire.



If you see a gun, run away to tell an adult.
